Modest Monday // by Mykaela

Graduation Party Outfit

Well, as some of you may know, I recently graduated from High School. It wasn't going to be a huge deal, but we did want to have an open house party. Since it was 109 degrees the day of the party, we weren't sure how many people would come, but it turned out to be really fun and quite a few people showed up. Always so great! Anyway, it being so hot I wanted to wear something cool and yet a bit dressy. I went shopping at JCP the day before, and found this gray shirt with white lace on the front. I fell in love with it!! It is very modest, but light and cool, and can be dressed up or down. I wore this bright teal blue skirt with it, and earlier in the day I was wearing black flats with a bow...previously pictured in this this post. Because I wanted to draw attention to the detailing on the shirt, I didn't go big with a necklace, just keeping it to this simple silver chain. All together, I really like how this outfit turned out, especially with the heat and how much activity there was.
To break it down:
Shirt: $16 from JCPenney. (I splurged a bit for the party. ;)
Skirt $15 from Fred Meyer
Shoes (not pictured): Gift--$10 from Ardene
Necklace: Gift, not sure of price.
Wow, with the days heating up, doesn't it sometimes feel like you are the ONLY one covering your body? I think it's really sad how so many just undress when summer comes around. I just want to encourage anyone reading this--you do NOT have to dress how society says is normal. Cultural norms are not our standard for anything! Do we take our standards on music from the world? Hopefully not. The Bible tells us to walk in the Spirit, not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. Do we take our standards on marriage from the world? Of course not. Culture tells us everywhere that marriage is dissolvable, if it doesn't work out, trash it. Culture tells us that homosexuality is perfectly acceptable. The Bible tells us very differently--God says it's wrong. So continuing this theme: should we take our standards on dress from society? Absolutely not. The Bible tells us to be discreet and chaste, and not to give occasion to the flesh. Keep this in mind when you look around and feel odd: you aren't SUPPOSED to look like the world. God has called us to be a peculiar people, set apart for His use. Let's try to display that purpose in the way we dress! :) Keep on being strong for The Lord!
